8 Must-Read Beer Blogs

In Beer Festivals & Events by AlexLinebrinkLeave a Comment

Blogging about beer may seem like all the fun in the world, until you attempt to describe the taste of a particular craft beer to a friend without also describing every other beer you’ve ever tasted. Although most people acquire a taste for beer, few acquire the skills necessary to effectively communicate the pros, cons, likes, dislikes, and intricacies of a single beer in relatable fashion. Below, I’ve compiled a list of the most unique, entertaining and educational blogs for all things noteworthy in the world of brewing.

Each of the following blogs is great for different reasons. Some authors write about exotic recipes, others about the scene and selection of new pubs that open in a particular town. All have definite strengths, so don’t get hung up on the numbers that precede their name; check them all out and decide which one ranks #1 based on your own taste and interest.

1. Blog About Beer

This blog is home to an extensive library of home brewing articles and resources. On a more comical note, it also showcases “fun beer stuff”, which includes articles featuring marvelous little things like beer-flavored jellybeans and the “Beer Lover’s Gift Guide”. The icing on the cake comes in the form of a wide selection of beer cocktails like “This Ain’t Yo Grandma’s Shamrock Shake” and “Basura Blanca Margarita”.

2. Focus On The Beer

Although this blog is devoted to craft beer in the Pikes Peak region of Colorado, Focus On The Beer’s podcast is relevant to any beer connoisseur. Hop-heads, Ryan Hannigan, Josh Howard, and Eric Steen, collaborate to make this blog a friendly hub for news, events, and Brew Love. It’s evident that these guys not only possess a serious passion for beer blogging, but are also interesting and adventurous individuals outside the brew setting.

3. Good Beer Hunting

Apart from the catchy name and awesome photography that this site showcases, there are tons of stories and interviews with interesting beer drinkers around the world. The cool thing about this blog, is that you get many diverse perspectives about everyone’s favorite drink. From Sweden, to Chicago, you’ll get a glimpse of how experts around the world are making, drinking, and selling beer.

4. Brewers Association

This one stop shop for all things beer has a lot to offer knowledgeable brewers, as well as newbies. They provide tips for improving beer sales, exporting beer, beer education, and best practices in general. Brewer’s Association is an all-around great resource for anyone looking to up their brew game!

5. The Hop Review

The beautiful layout and design is the first thing you’ll notice when you land on this gem. The contributors, Jack, Tom, Robert, and Nick, come from different backgrounds with various interests. However, their common area of expertise: you guessed it, great beer. The guys also supply an abundance of seriously awesome interviews with breweries, bottle shops, bars, and more.

6. Boak & Bailey

They might be blogging from across the pond, but there’s no question their content will hit home with any and every beer geek out there. Located in the UK, Jessica Boak and Ray Bailey have been blogging about beer since 2007 and have acquired the knowledge necessary to educate and entertain beer fans near and far. Brace yourself; there’s a lot of information on this blog, but it’s well worth wandering around for a while. Whet your appetite by checking out their beer infographic!

7. Don’t Drink Beer

The witty and hilarious writing of Don’t Drink Beer will have you hooked the minute you land on the homepage. This is also one of my favorite places to go for honest and clear beer reviews. Beers are rated on a scale of 1 (Death) to 100 (Alegasm); what’s not to love? Along with these concise ratings, one can click for a more detailed, lengthy review if he or she wants the dirty details on each featured pint. Each review is based on ASTMD: Appearance, Smell, Taste, Mouthfeel, and Drinkability. Be sure to take a peek at the charming video reviews as well!

8. The Beeroness

This blog features some of the most unique craft beer related recipes I’ve ever heard of. Finalist for Saveur Magazine’s Best Original Recipes and author of The Craft Beer Cookbook, Jackie Dodd is a mastermind when it comes to pairing beer with food. If you need an intro into the world of craft beer, or a recipe for this summer’s barbeque, look no farther than The Beeroness.
